The Supermarine Spitfire

The Supermarine Spitfire is a lightweight single seater WW2  fighter aircraft (although a few two seaters were made) designed by R.J mitchell in 1936 it was the pinnacle of WW2 fighter aircraft technology with a top speed of 584 kph (but not as fast as the mesersmitchitt B.F 109 which had a top speed of 617 Kph.)

Built for the British, the spitfire was made with two different engines the early ones had the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine which produced 1030 horsepower later models had the much more powerful Rolls-Royce Griffon which produced 2340 horsepower.

With 20,351 spitfires built they were everywhere and used by countries such as Australia,Canada,France,New Zealand and of course the U.K (although it was used by other allied countries) even the Germans who hijacked a few love it. As it was so much easier to fly than the Messerschmitt BF 109 and had a smoother engine than the Messerschmitt. with 2xs 20mm  Hispano mk II cannons (60 rounds per gun) or 4xs .303 Browning mk II machine-guns (350 rounds per gun) this is why the spitfire is one of the all time greats in aviation history.
A Spitfire in persent day there are aporxamently 53 are still air worthy
